Presiding Bishop of Sword of the Spirit Ministries, Bishop Wale Oke, on Sunday revealed how he anointed Chief Olusegun Obasanjo in 1999 as Nigeria’s next president on God’s instruction.
Speaking to reporters in Ibadan, on the occasion of his 60th birthday, the cleric recalled how God revealed to him that Obasanjo was going to be civilian president after Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd) and that he should go and anoint him for the position in his Abeokuta home.
Obasanjo was just released from the prison and had no idea what was awaiting him, Bishop Oke recalled.
The man of God said he thereafter asked pastors of the parishes of his ministry in Ogun State if they had any contact with the former Head of State but none of them knew him directly.
But by divine arrangement, a cleric of another church in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, invited him to minister in his church, and that gave him another opportunity to make more enquiries. There, he learnt that Obasanjo’s late wife, Stella, worshipped in the church.
On announcing to Obasanjo that he would be the next president, Oke said: “The man said ‘No.’ What did I forget at the State House that I want to go back for. But he did not prevent me from anointing him as directed by God.”
Oke said Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (rtd) visited Obasanjo two weeks after he anointed him and dragged him into politics. “The rest is history today.” He said.
Reflecting on his 60th birthday, Bishop Oke said:
“I don’t want to count years. I prefer to count achievements, the impacts God has used me to make in the lives of others and in my generation.”
On the state of the nation, Oke advised President Muhammadu Buhari and his team to urgently diversify the economy and communicate better with the citizens, who according to him, need to realize that the current economic problem is global and not form a wrong impression about the administration.
He also added that the Buhari administration needs to call citizens to pray for the country because God has solutions to all human problems.
Oke’s birthday coincided with the annual convention of the ministry which started on Sunday.
Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo and Pastor Enoch Adeboye , both of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and Bishop David Oyedepo of Winners Chapel, are among the dignitaries expected at the convention and birthday ceremony.
