The mogajis and chiefs in Ibadan land, have described the death of the Aseyin of Iseyin land, Oba Abdul-Ganiyy Salawudeen, Ajinase Ologunebi I,as a monumental loss.
The mogajis and chiefs, under the aegis of Ibadan Compounds Peace and Security Initiative, in a statement issued on Monday by the President, Association of Mogajis of Ibadan land, Mogaji Asimiyu Ariori, and Coordinator, Ibadan Compounds Peace and Security Initiative, Mogaji (Asiwaju) Nurudeen Akinade, said the late Aseyin was a lover of peace and development, adding that despite been a Muslim, the monarch exhibited religious tolerance and never discriminated against any religion during his life time.
According to them, Aseyin accommodated everyone irrespective of where they come from.
“He never commercialised his chieftaincy title; he gave both honorary and traditional chieftaincies to only the worthy recipients without any form of financial inducement,” the statement read.
Recall that the 62-year-old first class monarch died at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, on Sunday, after a protracted illness.
They described the death of the late monarch as a rude shock, adding that his death was a great loss to Yoruba land.
“He was very passionate on the issues bothering on the development of Oke Ogun zone and Oyo State in general. His fatherly role shall be greatly missed.
“Oba Salaudeen was an exemplary leader and a true believer in the progress and development of Oyo State. It is on record that late Aseyin gave more chieftaincy titles and recognitions to more distinguished and prominent sons and daughters of Ibadan land than any other traditional ruler outside the city,” it added.
Aseyin’s passage was the fourth among first class obas in the state following the death of late Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Jimoh Oyewumi, in December 2021; immediate past Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Adetunji, and Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, in January and April, 2022 respectively.
