The governments of Oyo, Osun and Lagos states have declared Friday, June 12, as public holidays to commemorate the June 12, 1993 election which was purportedly won by Chief Moshood Abiola, but annulled by the military government of Ibrahim Babangida.
Governments of the South West states have for years been pressuring the Federal Government to make the date Nigeria’s actual “Democracy Day” and a national holiday.
