As the May 21 national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) draws near, former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ajibola Muraina from Oyo state is understood to be lobbying hard to emerge as the party’s National Secretary.
Sources say he is committing a lot of energy and resources to actualize his ambition. The Oyo State chapter of the party is also understood to be lobbying party bigwigs to support him.
Some leaders in the state including Senator Hosea Agboola are solidly behind Muraina but it is unclear if the ambition enjoys majority support from the party.
Muraina’s determination is backed by the belief that the Oyo State chapter have been shut out of the party’s executive structure for too long.
The position of National Secretary and National Publicity Secretary were zoned to the Southwest although some leaders in the zone feel they deserve to produce National Chairman.
Sources however tell Newspeakonline that the Southwest leaders have decided to focus on the current zoning formula in order to decide who succeeds former outgoing National Secretary, Prof. Wale Oladipo from Osun State.
Muraina, who lost re-election into the green chambers in the 2015 elections, represented Ibarapa North/Ibarapa Central Federal constituency. He was in strong contention for the House Speakership with  Hon. Mulikat Akande-Adeola in the last dispensation before current governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, beat them to it.
Newspeakonline also learnt that Muraina’s team was also lobbying Senator Rashidi Ladoja to endorse his candidature as it is believed that the party’s talks on bringing in the Accord Party leader and his men, could still bear fruit.
