There was palpable apprehension at Jakande Estate, in Isolo area of Lagos State, on Thursday, after some irate youths burnt over 20 commercial motorcycles.
The incident, according to an eyewitness, occurred after a rider plying “one-way” allegedly knocked down a pedestrian, who died immediately.
In retaliation, some youths in the area hijacked any motorcycle in sight and set them ablaze.
Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the incident, told Channels Television, that the Divisional Police Officer in the area, Folorunsho Gabriel, responded to the emergency situation promptly.
He said the Police team rescued the suspect from mob attack and evacuated the corpse from the scene.
According to Hundeyin, despite police intervention, the youths attacked motorcycle owners and burnt their means of livelihood.
He condemned the act of jungle justice, warning that anyone caught will be dealt with in line with the dictates of the law.
The police spokesperson added that normalcy has has been restored to the area, adding that security operatives are on ground to forestall break down of law and order.
