Former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar (retd.), had a closed door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Thursday.
While fielding questions from State House correspondents, Abubakar said he discussed national and international issues with the president.
He said:
“I came to discuss issues of national interest and international affairs with the President. Both of them are interwoven. I have discussed with the person I came to see and I don’t think I need to discuss it in the news media”
He also reacted to claims that he had been silent on national issues, saying that the National Peace Committee for the 2015 General Elections which he chairs was still working behind the scene.
“We (the committee members) are still working, although quietly, to make sure that there is peace in the country.
“I hope all Nigerians will give the present administration the necessary support to make sure that we overcome all these crisis that are unnecessary and uncalled for”
