The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Saturday’s bye-election for Akoko North East/Akoko North West Federal Constituency of Ondo State, Ifeoluwa Ehindero, has been declared winner of the exercise.
Ehindero, son of former Inspector-General of Police, Mr Sunday Ehindero, was declared victorious by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Returning Officer for the election, Dr Johnson Fasinmirin, from Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), said Ehindero polled a total of 35,504 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Olalekan Bada of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who got 15,328 votes.
According to Fasinmirin, the total votes cast was 51,896. The valid votes cast was 51,341 while 555 votes were rejected.
“That Ehindero Ifeoluwa Babajide of APC having satisfied the requirements of the law is hereby declared the winner and return elected,” he said.
The bye-election in Akoko North East/ Akoko North West Federal Constituency was conducted to fill the seat vacated by Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
Tunji-Ojo, was the representative of the federal constituency in the House of Representatives since 2019 before his appointment as minister by President Bola Tinubu.
