Few days after gunmen attacked and released hundreds of inmates from the Oyo Medium Security Custodial Centre, Abolongo, Oyo State, officers have uncovered an explosive at the facility.
It was gathered that the explosive was part of those planted by the gunmen who attacked the centre last Friday.
According to a source, the anti-bomb unit of the police detonated the explosive after officials at the custodial centre alerted them.
The spokesperson of the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Oyo State Command, DSC Olanrewaju Anjorin, confirmed the development to Newspeakonline.
He said: “A controlled detonation of IED left behind by last week attackers was carried out by experts from the Nigerian Police EOD unit. There is absolutely no cause for alarm and everyone should please go around their daily activities without fear.”
