The governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party in Oyo State, Chief Bolaji Ayorinde (SAN), has stated that the people of Oyo State have no business being poor, adding that the waste culture was responsible for the present financial challenges facing the state.
Chief Ayorinde made this known during an interview with Newspeak.
“Oyo state is not poor; we are suffering from leakages due to diversion of funds to wasteful ventures”, he said.
The SDP candidate who decried the inability of past governments to pay workers’ salaries as and when due, also lamented that government has become a drain on the people of the state.
His words: “Government has become a drain on the people and residents of Oyo state. They have no business with being poor or in want as the state is blessed. Oyo state is not poor; we are suffering from leakages due to diversion of funds to wasteful ventures”
He said he is ready to put an end to such wastes, stressing: “I will be running a campaign of ideas and policies while I reorder the priorities of government from a contract happy one to one that focuses on the people. Past governments have made finance and inability to pay workers’ salaries an issue of regret and pain for the people particularly in the civil service. There is no rocket science in dealing with this. We shall reduce cost of governance and public procurement.”
