Gunmen have abducted a businesswoman, Mujidat Otefila, and her daughter, in Oju Ilu community, Imeko Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State.

It was gathered that the victims were abducted on Saturday night at their residence located at the back of Imeko Afon Local Government Secretariat.

The gunmen numbering about three, had earlier abducted a farmer, Ikanlu Jimoh, while he was planting tomatoes on his farm.

The farmer was abducted in Saparu village in Imeko Afon.

The gunmen, it was learnt, covered their faces with masks and started shooting to scare away people.

Jimoh, was, however abandoned by his abductors when the villagers chased them into the bush.

The gunmen later ambushed Otefila while driving into her compound.

Otefila was returning from her shop and one of her daughters came down from the car to open the gate of the house.

The kidnappers suddenly appeared from their hiding place and descended on her, dragged her back into the car, and forced the woman to drive to the outskirt of the community where the vehicle and the daughter were abandoned.

The incident, it was gathered occurred around 9.50pm on Saturday. The abductors used the woman’s phone to call the family that they will talk to them later.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Omolola Odutola confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday evening.

The PPRO explained that policemen and Amotekun corps combed the bush, which forced the kidnappers to flee.

“The Kidnappers fled when they heard sounds of motorcycles used to chase after them. The victim was found tied up where he was abandoned and he has been rescued,” she said.

On the second incident, Odutola said: “I was reliably informed that policemen are trailing the kidnappers.

“There is a network challenge, but the synergy with the vigilante and Amotekun is working.

“Her little baby that was with her when the incident happened has been rescued.

“Also, her Toyota Corolla in which the kidnappers took her away has been recovered.”
