Gunmen have killed a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Kazeem Kekere.
Kekere, who was the Chairman of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Apomu branch, in Isokan Local Government Area of the state, was murdered on Saturday night.
The slain NURTW boss, it was learnt, used his position to canvass support for APC during the July 16 governorship election and deprived other political parties the opportunity to use vehicles in his garage.
A source in the community told The Nation that Kazeem was killed on Saturday night after he was trailed to a spot in the community.
“He was killed around 9pm between Oke-Alfa and Timberland area. He was killed at the stream in the area. He was pursued to the spot where he was killed. Two vehicles followed him to the point where his car was attacked mand before he was killed,” the medium quoted the source as saying.
The Secretary, Isokan Local Government, Tajudeen Bello, confirmed the incident.
“Alhaji Kazeem was killed by gunmen yesterday night.
“He played a major role during through last governorship election. He stood by his words even after he was reported at the palace. God grant him Aljanah Firdaus. ”
The Osun State APC chairman, Prince Gboyega Famodun, through his media aide, Kola Olabisi, also confirmed the incident.
