An Oyo State Family Court, sitting at Iyaganku, has remanded an alleged fake doctor, Olanrewaju Oludele, at Agodi Correctional Centre for causing the death of a baby boy, whom he allegedly drowned in a canal.
Oludele,50, was arraigned on Thursday by the police on a three-count charge bordering on impersonation, abduction and murder.
However, the magistrate, Mrs O. O. Ogunkanmi, did not take the suspect’s plea over lack of jurisdiction. She subsequently returned the case file to the Directorate of Public Prosecution for legal advice, and adjourned the matter till March 4 for mention.
The investigating police officer, Inspector Gbemisola Adedeji, informed the court that Oludele committed the offence on December 28, 2023, at His Mercy Hospital, Akinyele, Ibadan.
Adedeji explained that the fake doctor took the baby boy, delivered at the hospital, without his mother’s consent and drowned him in a canal. She added that Oludele falsely portrayed himself as a qualified doctor to deceive the mother of the baby boy and other members of the public.
The offences, according to Adedeji, contravened the Criminal Laws of Oyo State (2000), and are punishable by three years imprisonment for impersonation, 14 years for abduction, and a death sentence for murder.
