People Democratic Party ( PDP) governorship candidate in Saturday’s poll in Kogi State, Dino Melaye, has rejected the election, calling for its cancellation.
Speaking at a press conference in Lokoja, the state capital, on Sunday, Melaye described the election as a sham.
“There was no election, accreditation was done manually, BVAS not used, prepared result sheets were available before election.
“INEC must cancel the election. We have evidence to back up. INEC has manifested gross incompetence; it cannot be trusted, it is biased and compromised,” he said.
He said INEC is the bane of development as the country, adding that the time had come for Nigerians to rise up and effect a leadership change.
The PDP candidate stated that INEC officials refused to make result sheets available in most polling units, claiming that the areas he won, there were no available result sheets to record.
“I call for a total cancellation of the election. I sympathise with Kogi people; I weep for Nigeria and generation unborn.
“A youth corper was caught yesterday with prepared result sheets and over one million naira in his bag. How did the APC get access to sensitive materials. I have seen digital rigging in the past, but this very one is legendary and scientific. We will not allow this to stand. We wait to see what INEC will do. This is not the end of it,”he said.
Meanwhile, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the election, Usman Ododo is currently leading as INEC continues to collate the results of the election.
Ododo has won in 10 out of the 15 local governments announced so far.
Muritala Ajaka of the SDP is second after winning five local governments. Dino Melaye of the PDP is a distant third.
Results from 3301 of 3508 polling units in the state showed that Ododo has 419,066 votes while Ajaka has garnered 261,228 votes.
In the meantime, INEC has suspended collation of results till 4pm.
