A group of students and parents of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, have initiated legal proceedings against Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State over the relocation of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences to Iseyin.
Recall that Makinde had recently relocated the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences to Iseyin, in the Oke Ogun zone of the state.
As a result, second-year students have been instructed to move to Iseyin for the second semester of the current academic session.
The plaintiffs, Akintayo Abdulqoyuum Ajibola, Onwi Bassey Edet, Ezekiel Gbadegesin Ogunmola and Prince Aderemi Olude filed a lawsuit before an Oyo State High Court in Ogbomoso.
The defendants listed in the suit include the Commissioner of Education, Acting Vice Chancellor of the university and the Provost of the Iseyin campus.
The claimants are seeking a court order to prevent the governor and his representatives from proceeding with the relocation plans.
The plaintiffs are also sought three reliefs, including “an order directing the Respondents, whether directly or through agents, employees, or any other person under their authority, to return all the courses relocated from the Faculty of Agricultural Science and Renewable Natural Resources of the main campus of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, to the main campus.”
Additionally, they are asking for an order to recall all second-year students who were directed to move to Iseyin back to the main campus.
The claimants are further seeking an injunction against the relocation of established courses from the Faculty of Agricultural Science and Renewable Natural Resources to Iseyin campus or any other campus outside the main campus.
The date for the hearing of the lawsuit has not been announced.
