A socio-political group, The Pioneers, has raised an alarm over what it called a devilish move by some political roughnecks under the payroll of an unnamed All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Oyo state, to attack known loyalists of another leading aspirant in the state.
In a release signed by Comrade Femi Adeniran on behalf of group and made available to the press on Thursday in Ibadan, the state capital, the group stated that it has just received a security tip off unveiling the existence of a gang being led by the personal assistant of an APC governorship aspirant in the state.
“Our group could have paid no special attention to the confidential report but we are miffed by the human angle of the story that involves a pernicious plot being hatched by the gang to pounce on the notable leaders of another aspirant without any causal explanation,” the group said.
The group added that “the animosity was fuelled by the escalating popularly ratings of the first class engineer who has joined the guber race in Oyo state from the corporate world where he has been providing reform advisory, consultancy and sundry services to both government and private institutions all over the world.”
Adeniran said his group has information that a popular High Chief in Ibadan is being targetted by the gang. “This planned attack, he added, was sequel to another one in which the gang unsuccessfully mobilised its members to distrupt the campaign of the leading aspirant at Ibadan South East local government area.” He said.
Adeniran also stated that on the last Sallah day, one of the identified henchmen of the said aggrieved aspirant threw caution into the winds and in the public glare embarrassed one of the leading figures in the engineer’s campaign team.
He added that the group has it on good authority that the gang sponsored by the personal assistant of the estranged aspirant have recently concluded plans to wreak havoc on the campaign organisation’s leaders of the other aspirant after the scheduled APC primaries to elect the party’s flagbearers.
He said “it is quite unimaginable that an aspirant who wears a look of an easy going person will encourage such unbecoming conducts of his personal assistant-led gang all in the name of politics.
“At this level, all hands must be on deck to forestall any breakdown of law and order in the state. The Pioneers hereby warns the troublesome aspirant who is pushing his political ambition with high level desperation to check the thugs he harbours to unlessh terror on innocent people. if he insists, we will not hesitate to reveal his full identities with avalanche of evidence within our disposal to back up our claims”.
