According to the Executive Secretary, OYSHIA, Dr Sola Akande, the health insurance policy for the medical examination which started on Monday, March 1, allows such examination to be conducted more than once a year depending on enrollee’s health condition.

He said the examination include abdominal scan, Prostate- Specific Antigen (PSA), haematological and radiological investigations.

“After the examination, enrollees get their report and then see a relevant specialist to review it for them.

“It is an inherent benefit of the insurance plans they subscribed to. We are like bringing it to their doorstep. Things are changing gradually. Change is difficult but somebody has to push and enforce it,” he said.

Akande said the examination are being conducted at reputable diagnostic centres, adding that the investigation is for enrollees on standard insurance peak of N108,000.

He said if any enrollee on such plan has issues, they should call the number on their ID card.

“We can always move you to the nearest best medical facility if your case can not be handled at your assigned medical facility,’ he said.

The OYSHIA boss further disclosed that the agency now enrols everybody, including people with pre-existing illness. He said the decision was taken in order to accommodate all classes of people in the society so they won’t be overburdened by medical bills.
