The Executive Secretary, Oyo State Health Insurance Agency (OYSHIA), Dr Sola Akande, has revealed that 800 street sweepers in the state would be enrolled free of charge into health insurance on Thursday.
The OYSHIA boss stated this while featuring on a radio station at the weekend.
“There would be another pace setting achievement in few days. On Thursday, we would be getting all street sweepers in Oyo State on board health insurance.
“They are not going to pay a dime. From our innovation, we were able to get some funds to be able to bring them on board for a period of one year to start with.
“We had a meeting with the management of Ministry of Environment led by the Commissioner, Mojeed Mogbonjubola, who bought into the idea and of course, they are going to mobilise all the street sweepers on Thursday to House of Chiefs, that is where we would be having the enrollment.
“Not only that, aside the fact that we would do medical check up for all of them in batches, we would ensure that we were able to know their status. The second thing that this collaboration will bring on board is regular medical enlightenment for all the street sweepers, probably once in six months, to be able to bring them together and talk about health issues.
“On Thursday, we would be bringing all street sweepers together to enlighten them and then activate and put them on the nearest Primary Healthcare Center and we hope they take advantage of that,” he said.
