The Ogun State Police Command has said its men are on the trail of the abductors of chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Mr Philip Aivoji.
Commissioner of Police (CP) in the state, Mr Abiodun Alamutu, said this while speaking with newsmen in Abeokuta, the Ogin State capital.
Aivoji was abducted by yet-to-be-identified persons on Thursday evening. He was abducted near Bamboo bush, in Isara Remo, inward Lagos, along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
Aivoji and nine ither persons were said to be returning from the party’s Stakeholders’ Zonal Caucus Meeting held in Ibadan when the incident happened.
Alamutu said the police had engaged the gunmen in a gun duel which forced the abductors to abandon nine persons while the PDP chairman was taken away.
The police boss revealed that two persons lost their lives in the incident, including a 37-year-old woman, Bilikisu Kazim, who was travelling in a Mazda 626 car with registration Number, OGUN, WDE986MM.
An AK-47 gun, containing 28 live ammunition belonging to the gunmen, and a car key were recovered from the scene of the incident, according to Alamutu.
He assured that the police would catch up with the abductors of the party chieftain.
