A member of the House of Representatives, Engr. Remi Oseni, has revealed that President Bola Tinubu approved money for all federal lawmakers to take care of constituents in order to cushion the effect of economic hardship occasioned by the policies of the Federal Government.
Oseni, who represents Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency, had while fielding questions from journalists on how he has lived up to the expectations of his people, said he was not using his own personal money alone, adding that he and his colleagues got support from the Tinubu-led administration to put smiles on the faces of the people.
In a video that has gone viral, Oseni, who is the Chairman of House Committee on Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), said the fund he has been using came from the Federal Government.
“Let me say this for the whole world to hear. Let anyone who has given me any dime apart from the money the President (Bola Tinubu) gave us, come out and say it. I challenge the person to come out publicly and tell the people.
“President gave us money to go back to our constituencies and take care of our people. It is not a private thing now. It was done through the Ministry of Agriculture that we should take (items), go back and take care of our people,” he said.
When asked why some federal lawmakers are yet to distribute anything to their constituents, he replied “it is their problem.”
The revelation by Oseni, who recently donated equipment worth several millions of naira to his constituency, has continued to generate reactions and counter-reactions.
While Oseni’s colleagues are yet to comment on the revelation, Nigerians have said that it is not appropriate to lay the blame of economic hardship solely on the footsteps on the president, adding that most members of the National Assembly are not sensitive to the plight of their people.
They urged Federal Government and other agencies to make any palliative they are giving the lawmakers and others public so as not to shortchange the people they are meant for.
