Market leaders, Ibadan Chiefs, Baales, prominent sons and daughters of Ibadan land have reaffirmed their support for Alhaja Saratu Konibaje as the Iyaloja-General of Oyo State.
They reaffirmed their support while reacting to an alleged move by a group loyal to Princess Folashade Abeo Nurudeen, which discredited the the election that produced Konibaje and called for another election.
A statement, titled, ‘Appeal for prompt ratification of nomination of Alhaja Saratu Aduke Konibaje as Iyaloja-General of Oyo State,’ jointly signed by the Oyo State Market Leaders’ Council executive including the President, Alhaji Dauda Abiodun Oladepo; Vice President, Mogaji Salaudeen Qarmardeen; Second Vice President, Chief (Mrs) Stella Olabode; Financial Secretary, Chief (Mrs) Labake Lawal and the Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Yisau Kolayode Hamzat, said there is no need to conduct another election since the election that produced Konibaje as the Iyaloja-General followed due process.
The market leaders said conducting another election would amount to waste of time amd resources, adding that Konibaje, who had the majority vote in the last election,is the people’s choice.
“There is no need for another election because the one that produced Konibaje followed due process and was supervised by government agencies,” the statement said.
The market leaders appreciated the state governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde and the House of Assembly for their intervention in the Iyaloja-General tussle.
“We thank His Excellency, Engr. Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, Speaker and members of the Oyo State House of Assembly for standing firm against injustice and supporting the result of the election and due process that produced Alhaja Saratu Konibaje as Iyaloja of Oyo State,” the market leaders said.
