A member of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Gideon Aremu, has been assassinated.
He was assassinated by some unknown gunmen who stormed his Alakia, Ibadan home at about 9:45 pm on Friday.
The lawmaker representing Oorelope State Constituency, was murdered at the entrance of his house at about 9:50 pm, according to the Oyo State Police Command, throwing his family into mourning.
His corpse was said to have been deposited at the morgue of Toun Memorial Hospital, Iwo Road, Ibadan.
Aremu was the only Labour Party (LP) lawmaker from Oke-Ogun zone of the state. He was the Chairman, Oyo State House of Assembly’s Committee on Information, Public Relations and Security.
While confirming the incident the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Mr Adekunle Ajisebutu, said the command viewed it as a case of suspected murder.
He said: “We can’t give u details for now because we are investigating. The Commissioner of Police (CP) has deployed enough human and other resources to track down the killers. We are using this opportunity to appeal to members of the public who have information to please come up and assist the police. For now, we won’t want to make statements that can jeopardize investigation.”
