A former federal lawmaker, Sen Adesoji Akanbi, on Monday, urged the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to shelve any planned strike or protest, saying it is retrogressive at this time.
Akanbi, in a statement he personally signed on Monday, said indeed things are hard in the country. He, however, said President Bola Tinubu is putting measures in place to reduce inflation and make Nigerians comfortable.
He noted that the #ENDSARS protest in 2020 as well as other protests in the past have been hijacked by hoodlums and touts, adding that many government and targeted individuals businesses were destroyed in 2020.
“Protest will only worsen the situation of the commoners and downtrodden, who live from hand to mouth. The integrity of the so called labour leaders are doubtful as they have been reported to be supporters of an opposition political party. Kudos, if true, to the leadership of Trade Union Congress (TUC) and 65 Civil Society Organisations that pulled out of the planned protest.
“These labour leaders should engage constructively with all the state governors in order to make them accountable for the allocation from the Federal Government.
“Credit must be given to President Bola Tinubu for coming up with agricultural policies ànd security initiatives to support the farmers. President Tinubu’s administration through the Ministry Of Agriculture and Food Security, signed a MoU with John Deere for the supply of 2,000 quality tractors per year for the next five years.
“President Tinubu has established a collaborative economic advisory committee comprising representatives from the Federal Government, sub-national entities and the private sector. This is time for all and well meaning Nigerians to invest in their local communities by giving back to the downtrodden.
“We must allow the government that made promises to deliver on its promises,” he added.
