The organised labour will embark on an indefinite strike from Tuesday, October 3.
The leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) disclosed this at a joint press conference held in Abuja, on Tuesday.
The unions also asked the state chapters to mobilise members across the country.
“NLC and TUC, in the spirit of Independence Day celebration and to demonstrate our resolve for a truly independent Nigeria, to take our destinies into our own hands and rescue our nation, will embark on an indefinite and total shutdown of the nation beginning at zero hours on Tuesday, October 3, 2023.
“All workers in Nigeria are to withdraw their services from their respective workplaces commencing on October 3rd.
“All affiliates and state councils should immediately start mobilising accordingly for action, organise street protests and rallies until the government responds positively to our demands,” they said.
The unions enjoined all patriotic Nigerians to join hands “across the nation to assist this government in putting the people back at the centre of its policies and programmes.”
According to reports, the leaders of the two labour unions have resolved their differences that made only NLC embark on a two-day warning strike without the TUC few weeks ago.
