The Executive Secretary, Oyo State Health Insurance Agency (OYSHIA), Dr Sola Akande, has disclosed that the agency would be enrolling 35 residents of the state that are poor and vulnerable into the scheme.
He said that the process will begin in December, stressing that the scheme is putting together the statistics and available documents to determine people that are poor and vulnerable.
According to Akande, the process is to help the vulnerable in the society, maintaining that health is wealth.
The Executive Secretary also revealed that there is a model geared towards the poor where privileged citizens of the state can enroll people into the scheme.
He appealed to politicians in the state to enroll people that voted for them into the health insurance scheme.
Akande explained that if politicians enroll 5000 persons into the health insurance scheme, it will benefit the whole community because “we will pay back capitation into those hospitals and the politicians don’t need to go back and renovate the hospitals.”
“In other words, you are having political gain and your people are having economical gain and their health is being improved. When you enroll lives, we will pay about 60% of that money into the hospital.
“It is my wish that every residence of Oyo State comes under health insurance,” he said.
