Mogajis (family heads), Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Chiefs, Baales as well as prominent sons and daughters of the ancient city, including the Jagun Olubadan of Ibadan land and Chief Executive Officer of Ilaji Hotel and Sport Resort, Engr. Dotun Sanusi, have congratulated the Olubadan of Ibadan land, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, on the occasion of his second year coronation anniversary.
A statement jointly signed by the President, Association of Ibadan Mogajis, Mogaji Asimiyu Ariori, and Coordinator, Ibadan Compound Peace Initiative (ICPI), Mogaji Nurudeen Akinade, said that Ibadan and Oyo State in general have experienced many developemental strides during the reign of Oba Balogun.
According to the statement, the reign of Oba Balogun has brought tremendous development to Ibadan land, adding that history would be kind to the monarch for his contributions towards upholding the customs and traditions of the ancient city.
They described the monarch as a selfless person, who is always concerned about the progress and uplifting of his people and Ibadan as a whole.
The statement noted that the reign of Oba Balogun has brought peace, unity and harmony to Ibadan land, stressing that the monarch is indeed a great and illustrious son of Ibadan land.
“We are proud of you, you have put Ibadan land among top destinations for visitors, and our dear state has remained the pacesetter state it used to be.
“Kabiyesi, you are not just our king, but also a father to us. Your fatherly role cannot be overemphasized; your contribution to the developement and progress of this city is immeasurable.
“We are lucky to have you as our father, leader, companion, and our pathfinder. The entire Ibadan will remain grateful for your tremendous impact before and after you became the Olubadan.
“During your reign, the new Olubadan’s Palace was completed; during your reign, an indigene of Ibadan became the Vice Chancellor(VC) of University of Ibadan.You are the first PhD holder and Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to become Olubadan.
“You have set the foot of Ibadan land on the right path. Your academic wisdom, knowledge, and political exposure has pushed Ibadan into the limelight, creating opportunity for Ibadan indigenes, both home and abroad, and making the city the new capital of Africa,” the statement added.
